SPEED TESTS -
Your
ISP is not responsible for speeds outside of their network, if you subscribe
to “ACME-NET’ use “ACME-NET”s speed test, once it leaves ACME-NETS network they
no longer have control over the traffic.
If you are set for 1 megabit speed it doesn’t mean that you
will see 1 megabit at your computer. Expect to lose approximately 10% of your
speed in routing and housekeeping of your traffic.
Your
ISP will ALLWAYS advertise their speeds as “up to”
Frontier
TW a specific speed.
That does not mean you will get that speed. Speed is dependent on many things
including distance from your house and how many people are on the node you are
working from and the technology being used. In some cases DSL will be faster
than CABLE and in others it will be the other way around.
You should not depend on a speed test alone to determine the
quality of your connection. It should be based on pages loading quickly and your
mail download speeds. Staring at a speed test every day is useless in of itself.
A speed test is just a tool.
